California Golden Bears beat Georgia Bulldogs 70-46 to reach CBE Classic final – NCAA Basketball
Harper Kamp racked up a game-high 16 points on a perfect 6 for 6 shooting from the field as California Golden Bears cruised into the CBE Classic final with a 70-46 victory over Georgia Bulldogs on November 21 at Sprint Center,
Kansas City.
"They are a mature team," Georgia Bulldogs coach Mark Fox said afterwards.
Jorge Gutierrez added 14 points, shooting 5 for 10 from the floor, to go along with seven rebounds and two assists. Justin Cobbs came off the bench with 10 points, five assists and three steals in the victory. Allen Crabbe had
nine points, six rebounds and three assists for the Golden Bears, who have matched their best start under Coach Mike Montgomery
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope headed the Bulldogs with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. No other Georgia player reached double figures while five of them went scoreless. Gerald Robinson and Nemanja Djurisic ended with nine points
each.
California shot 50.0 percent (25 for 50) from the field and limited Georgia to 32.8 percent (19 for 58), including just 4 of 19 from three-point range. In addition to that, the Bulldogs made a lot of error on the floor. In total,
they committed 15 turnovers, which were converted into 17 points by the Bears. That figure ensured that the Bulldogs were always at a safe distance throughout the game.
The Bulldogs had the better of the opening minutes. The game was however tight at the start and Georgia barely managed a 25-22 lead with 5:16 to go in the first half of the game. The Golden Bears however pulled away with a 12 point
unanswered run and carried a 36-25 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs hit just two of their first 13 shots early in the second half and after suffering a brief spell of inaccurate shooting themselves , the Golden Bears reeled off a 14-0 run to take a 53-29 lead with 10:46 still left
to play. An 8-0 spurt minutes after further strengthened California’s position and they cruised form there on it.
The Bears will now take on the Missouri in the Classic championship game on Tuesday night.
