Question:

California Highway Patrol as a Marine reservist?

I'm joining the Marine Corps reserves, and interested in joining the CHP. I asked a CHP officer and he told me I can join the reserves but I won't be able to leave the academy for any kind of drill training until I successfully graduate the academy. The reason is because it's a live-in facility. I don't think the Marine Corps will be ok with the fact of me not going to drill training while i'm at the CHP academy for 6 months.

Does that basically mean I'll have to wait until my enlistment is over?

  1. YES!

  2. Pretty much, talk to your base Commander.

  3. It is not practical to start training as a CHP or Police, or Fireman, Paramedic ect and stop to do other things. Finish the CHP trainng first or be a Maine First.

The Reserves may allow you to complete your CHP training but get it in writting first. If is is not in writting from someone with the proper authority, it means nothing.

With this "war on terror," expect to be off in another country for 12 to 16 months at a time, come home and then go away to war again after just 6 months or less here. Iraq and Afganistan are not the only places where Marines, Navy Seals and Green Berets are fighting. Those wars are just the ones in the news. As a Marine will say, sooner or later "THE S *H* T WILL HIT THE FAN AGAIN!"

We will never again not be at war someplace. Our weapons manufactures and others make too much money from wars and they influence the world, whitehouse and congress.
