California: Is an accident a point off my licence or just a point off my insurance?

I had an accident in June of 2005. My only one ever, and it was my fault. Does it count as a point off?

  1. Just contact your local (DMV) department of motor vehicle office and ask them for this information.

    California Department of Motor Vehicles

    Driver Licensing &Title/Registration: (800) 777-0133

  2. Were you cited (did the cops give you a ticket) for the accident?  If not, then there probably were no points assessed against your license, but you can request a copy of your DMV driving record to see where you stand.

Your insurance is something else. It is not linked to your driving license.  If you filed a claim with your insurance company, they can raise your rates whether you have points on your license or not.
