I am scheduled to work 40 hours a week (5 days a week, 8 hours a day). However, I often work beyond my 8 hours. For example I worked 44 hours last week. I was paid at an overtime rate for 4 hours of work. I am wondering if this is accurate, or if I should have received 8 hours of overtime (since I worked 9 hours on 4 days, that means I should get the overtime for the hour beyond 8, PLUS i worked 4 hours beyond 40 in a week) If my question makes sense, please clarify the correct way to calculate.

  1. Federal law states tat you are paid overtime for anything over 40 hrs if paid weekly and 80 hrs if paid bi-weekly. For over time you are to receive 1.5 times your base pay. (if you make $10 an hr and you work 5 hr overtime you make $10 for 40 and $15 for 5)

Overtime is not calculated daily, but weekly.
