California Polo Club edge out Thomson-Reuters to lift United States Arena Championship
After a close competition, the California Polo Club edged out Thomson-Reuters by 11-10 in the final-clash and lifted the title of 2011 United States Arena Championship that took place at the California Polo Club in Los Angeles. It was a game filled with
suspense, thrill and enchantment throughout.
Grainger Hines, an actor who was enjoying the game at the stands said that it was an amazingly physical sport and there was nothing dirty in this regard. In the later time, Domingo Questel, the player who earned the award of ‘Best Player in the Tournament’
stated that it was the game plan that made their success possible in the finals. He went on to say, “The strategy we went into the game with was to take out their best player. Although Ashton (Wolf) lined up at the Number 1 position, his sole job was to cover
Billy (Sheldon).”
Manny Questel in a happy state of mind said it was an outstanding match. He underlined, “I hit the ball to the right on the penalty shot and then buried it into the goal from midfield. It was the longest 80 seconds of my life.”
Billy Sheldon, another player while speaking to the reporters commented that no shot was uncontested in the entire show.
Interestingly, home team of California Polo Club comprised of father and son combination (Domingo Questel and Manny Questel) lifted the title for a consecutive third time. Though both the teams opened up the game quite offensively, it was California Polo
Club that drew first blood in the hands of Many Questel. From the other side, Manny Rodriguez scored a couple of goals to put Thomson-Reuters on top. However, the chukka concluded at 2-2 by the second goal of Many Questel.
In the later time, Thomson-Reuters attacked and obtained three unanswered goals of which two scored by Billy Sheldon while one by Rodriguez. From the other side, Many Questel scored three goals and made evened the score at 5-all.
Many Questel scored and Wolf scored one goal each which were countered by two goals from Rodriguez. However, Many Questel did the action once more and put California Club ahead on the scoreboard, 8-7.
The last chukka was opened in the hands of Cary Burch who scored a goal from the field and tied the knots at 8-all. In the later time, Wolf and Many Questel scored one goal apiece and put California Club ahead. Many Questel converted a penalty shot in the
concluding moments and sealed the victory for California Polo Club at 11-10.
Owing to a brilliant performance, Many Questel was named Most Valuable Player while Albert of Billy Sheldon was selected as Best Playing Pony.
