  1. A higher speedometer range gives the feeling that the car is fast. There are a small percentage of cars that are used in racing and such a speedometer doesn't need to be replaced.

  2. thud.fan hate to burst your bubble, but stretches of I10 & I20 in TX east of El Paso & west of San Antonio/Abilene are 80mph speed limits during the day, 70 for trucks, & 65 at night for all traffic.  As for the speedometer pegged at 140mph all I can say is "with great power comes great responsibility."

  3. So you can know you are breaking the speed limit.

  4. Just for the people who don't do the speed limits. That way when they get pulled over they know how much trouble there in

  5. The same reason most 6-cylinder vehicles have more horsepower than a typical Cessna, Beech or Piper airplane - overkill...It would be interesting to see how many people would speed on the highways if the speedometer was topped out at 80 mph since the maximum speed limit in the US is 75 (and that's only in a handful of states).

And wouldn't car manufacturers be partially responsible for speeding tickets and high speed crashes for building vehicles that can go so much faster than the posted speed limit?
