California provisional permit traffic laws and sign test?

On the DMV website it says "There are 46 questions on the test. A passing score is at least 39 correct answers. You have three chances to pass the test. If you fail, you must wait 7 days before taking it again." does that mean if i fail the test then right after i can take it again or the next day or what? like i could take it three times there before i have to go home for a week and then come back?

I'm from Texas so I'm not completely sure about California's laws but from what it sounds you must wait a week each time you fail it which means you could only take the test once a week for three weeks.
