Question:

Caliper bolts on Ford Mustang loose?

I have a Ford Mustang and recently took it in because the brakes were grinding. They told me a caliper bolt wasn't screwed in all the way and that it seemed like someone who recently replaced brake pads must have forgotten to s***w it in. A couple weeks later the grinding noise came back and this time it was the back caliper bolt that wasn't screwed in all the way. The guy told me it was very strange that 2 different caliper bolts came unscrewed/weren't screwed in for the same car. He basically said the only way this would happen was if someone was purpously unscrewing them or hadn't screwed them in in the first place. I was wondering if anyone with a Ford Mustang has ever had repeat caliper bolts loosen up? Is somebody purpously loosening them on me?

  1. remove the caliper bolts the pull off the caliper, check and see if the hole is stripped out of the spindle where the bolt goes, if it is you may be able to tap the hole and install, but if you cant u have to replace the spindle assy...bet u will find your problem there.....never had them come loose on me...........

  2. It might just be vibration caused by road conditions, driving style, old tires, or maybe warped rotors (although they probably would've noticed that - at least I hope they would).

It's unlikely that someone is loosening them - but then again, I've seen stranger things happen.  If you've got any enemies, jealous exes, etc. - maybe try setting up a little hidden webcam plugged into a laptop, or maybe apply some powder or dust to the wheel so you will be able to tell if someone has been touching them.

Chances are this isn't the case, but if you do catch somebody messing with it - report them to the police, and press charges.  Messing with someones brakes ain't no laughing matter.

(Personally, I would just take them out in the woods for a little fun with 'ol rusty the eyeball removing spoon).

  3. not likely that someone was doing it and it is that someone might have left them loose but after tighten once and then they came loose again id replace them and maybe add some lock tight... and if it does it again replace calipers

  4. Use loc-tite thread locker.(removeable #242)
