Is it acceptable to call about a job I applied for? I want this job, but haven't heard back from them yet.

  1. Yes, it most certainly is.  Usually you should give them around 4 days if you sent the resume via mail.  Next day, if faxed.  Introduce yourself and ask them if they received your resume/application and then start a little small talk if they sound inviting.  Anything you say will make you memorable, so keep it short and courteous and use it to your advantage.  If you make the wrong impression or say something weird, this would be detrimental of course.  Key is... you want to have them saying, "Oh, yeah.  That was the person who ____________!  I'll have to call them back."

If you ever get the chance to interview, immediately send them a written thank you as soon as possible.  This makes you stand out because it is proper and most forget this detail.  Impress them.

  2. I think if you worded it right, then it would be a good choice to make, i.e. like a previous answer said 'I'd just like to follow up on my application' - be as nice as possible. But I had some guy once who was actually harrassing me and giving it the attitude asking why he never got an interview. His CV was sh*t thats why, and he did NOT seem eager by giving such a bad attitude, he never got an interview I can tell you that.

  3. Yes , if its been atleast a few days you can call and say something like "I was calling to check on my application and to make sure you didnt need any more information"

  4. Yes. Tell them that you applied and wanted to see if you are being considered for the position or if it has been filled. It's the perfect way to word everything and not sound to pushy.

  5. Yes, I sometimes try this too. There is nothing wrong with it. This tells them you really want the job. Keep calling them.

  6. Only follow up if it's at least 1 week over the deadline to submit your application...this will have given them time to go through the applications.

  7. Yes that's perfectly fine. Ask to speak with the manager or whomever is in charge of hiring. Then tell them your name, say that you applied for the position and were just wondering if it was still open and what the status of your application was. It can never hurt to follow up.

  8. do it

  9. Yes, just say you'd like to follow up on your application.

  10. If you just had the interview I would wait at least a few days, maybe a week to follow up.

  11. Most definitely call to follow-up.  It will show your seriousness in obtaining the position.  Don't forget to ask when they anticipate filling the position.  Also, if unfortunately, you do not get hired, ask them if they could be specific for their reasons.  This will only assist you in future applications.  Good luck.

  12. yes show good manner and express your deep desire to have the job, without gushing writing a card thanking them for the interview is also good

  13. yes!

  14. Personally,I think it is rude to call and ask about our application status. I work at a small retail store and every time someone would come in and ask the manager would get so upset.

Other times, employers like it when you call because it shows you really would like a job. I would wait a week and then call. Just say," This is so in so. I am just calling to check the status of my application." More times than few, they will immediately read it. If they donot then you know they donot need you for the position.

    Good luck.

  15. yes, why don't you? it's common nowadays to inquire about the job you applied.for. sometimes they don't answer you immediately due to numerous applicants who likes the same post like you. in europe we do that so go ahead.
