Activision have confirmed a follow up to Treyarch’s Black Ops, with rumours strongly suggesting it very well might be a sequel to Black Ops.
The news that Activision will be releasing another title under the Call of Duty banner by the end of this year comes as no surprise to anyone.
The publisher has had a great deal of success with its annual release model ever since it released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare some five years ago. The game went on to break industry wide sales records and was followed up by Call of Duty: World at War,
which did the same.
Modern Warfare 2 continued the trend of selling more than any other game in history and Treyarch’s latest instalment in the series, Black Ops, sold earned over a staggering $650-million.
Yet, nothing could compare with the world record Modern Warfare 3 set as it earned an industry record by earning a massive $775-million within the first five days of its release. The figure bettered the previous record of the Hollywood mega hit, Avatar.
Now everyone has turned their attention to the next game in the series and if the internet is to be believed it could very well be titled ‘Black Ops 2’. However, Treyarch, the developer behind World at War and Black Ops, have not done a direct sequel for
any of their games as yet, so the rumour shall remain a rumour until we receive confirmation.
Activision has confirmed that a new title in the series is under development and that they are looking to change things around and bring in a number of innovations to the title.
A spokesperson for Activision stated, “This year we expect to further expand our presence with the launch of an all new epic first-person shooter under the Call of Duty brand.” While the title of the game was not disclosed, one can be certain that Treyarch
will be behind the development responsibilities.
The statement continued, “From what we’ve seen to date, the game already looks fantastic and will bring meaningful innovations to the franchise.”
As long as there is an equally entertaining Zombie mode in the game, we will have no complaints.
