Treyarch’s next instalment in Activision’s first-person shooter series could be made official on the 2nd of May this year; that is if one was to believe an image of a poster on the internet.
Activision is the publisher of what has to be the most successful video game franchise in history, the Call of Duty series. It has two developers working on two separate series under the same brand name of Call of Duty.
Infinity Ward is responsible for developing the record breaking Modern Warfare series, while Treyarch were responsible for World at War and Black Ops, two games which became immensely popular because of their Zombie modes.
Although Activision releases a game every year, they alternate between their developers meaning that each developer has two years to develop the next iteration of their series. Modern Warfare was followed by Treyarch’s World at War the next year, which was
succeeded by Modern Warfare 2 a year later only to be followed by Black Ops in 2010.
With Infinity Ward having released Modern Warfare 3 last year it now Treyarch’s turn once again and it turns out that the developer may just be releasing their first direct sequel to an earlier title. The developer registered a Black Ops 2 domain name and
since then has done little to deny reports of a sequel.
A recently leaked image of a poster, which is said to be of the upcoming title, Black Ops 2, points to a May 2nd reveal date. The image was sent to Kotaku, a popular video game news and review site, by “a retail source”.
If the date was rumoured to be a release date it would be difficult to take seriously, seeing how Activision have made it a tradition to release their games around the end of the year, yet the fact that the date instead points to a ‘reveal’ date, it makes
it all the more believable.
It seems that all one can do is wait and see until the 2nd of May to find out whether or not there is some truth behind the poster or if someone was a little late on their April Fools prank.
