Online retailer, Amazon.com, claims that Activision’s follow-up to Modern Warfare 3 is on its way to break the pre-order records as interest in the game remains strong.
Many expected that gamers may stray from the Call of Duty series due to its DLC release and annual release models, yet it turns out that is not the case as pre-orders for the game are growing by the second.
Treyarch and Infinity Ward each release a Call of Duty game every other year, with each studio getting around two years development time for their respective titles. This alternating between developers allows Activision, the series’ publisher, to release
a new game every year.
It was this annual release model that had analysts predicting a decrease in interest in the franchise yet it seems that gamers cannot get enough of anything with ‘Call of Duty’ slapped onto it.
According to Graham Chambers, who happens to be the video games manager at Amazon UK, claimed that Black Ops 2 is, “set to be one of the biggest games of the year” before calming down and continuing, “It’s great to see so much enthusiasm and anticipation
for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.”
It may be early days still but many are doubtful as to whether Black Ops 2 will be able to top Modern Warfare 3’s phenomenal sales. The latter managed to make $1-billion in under a month’s time and remains a record in the entertainment industry.
As for details of the game itself, it seems that the game is set primarily in the future, 2025 to be exact, however, gamers will be taken back to the 90’s and other recent time periods via a series of flash backs.
Treyarch, the game’s developer, is also focusing on adding replay value to the game’s single-player campaign, something that has never really been taken too seriously by Infinity Ward and the Modern Warfare series.
The developer also claimed to have shaken things up in terms of multiplayer and are set to unveil that component of the game in the near future as well. However, there is one mode that will be the focus of every gamer’s attention and that is the Zombie mode
that has been such a sensation since it was first introduced in World at War.
