Game director, David Anthony, explains that the latest instalment in the Call of Duty series will introduce multiple endings and long overdue replay value to the singleplayer campaign.
The Call of Duty series has been known predominantly for its multiplayer and at times for its set-piece filled, brief single player campaigns that are just there to keep players interested incase their internet connection is not working for some reason.
In fact, the single player campaigns seemed to be getting shorter and shorter as the series grew. However, one must give credit where credit is due as Treyarch always seemed to give the single-player campaign their due attention. World at War gave a gritty, tooth of the nail account of the Russian resistance and ultimate invasion of Germany, while Black Ops focused more on the Cold War and the black ops that took place during that time.
The gameplay and the storyline was linear and there was very little to entice players to play through the game another time. However, this time around it seems that Treyarch are addressing that issue as David Anthony, the game director, explained that the player’s actions during the game will influence the ending.
He said, "When you get to the end of the game we're gonna make it very clear to you the different things that could have happened,” before continuing, "We're gonna make it clear that if somebody died, that that person could have survived. We're gonna make it clear that the Cold War with China was lost or didn't go well - but that wasn't necessarily the only outcome.”
The player’s actions would also determine a number of things in terms of how successful the game’s antagonist would be. Anthony elaborated, "We're gonna make it clear that Raul Menendez succeeded or failed at certain things owing to your actions. So when you get to the end of that game you're probably gonna want to replay it to see how things could have changed if you'd have played in a different way.
It seems that Black Ops 2 is changing things up in the Call of Duty franchise and although gamers are impressed by what they have heard so far, it will all come down to the final delivery of the game.
