Call of Duty: Black Ops Annihilation DLC Pack dated for PS3, features five new maps
Treyarch may have been on the defensive when admitting they were not the ones responsible for pricing the Downloadable Content Packs (guilty conscience much?), but the new Annihilation DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops does look like it will be offering
plenty of bang for one’s hard earned buck.
While the Annihilation DLC pack has been doing the rounds on the Xbox 360, since the 28th of June, it is now poised to make its way on to the PlayStation Network and will be available for purchase and download, via the PlayStation Store, on the
28th of July.
Eventhough Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is widely considered to have a larger percentage of Call of Duty players and potential for sales when it comes to DLCs, Sony has a strong following of the Vietnam era first person shooter as well.
The latest DLC pack will feature four new multiplayer maps, but no Call of Duty DLC would be complete without the now obligatory brand new ‘Zombies’ map, where players can plough through hordes of the undead once again.
Treyarch’s online director, Dan Bunting, decided to give PlayStation console owners a walkthrough of every map the DLC will have to offer those who go ahead and purchase it.
Hangar 18 seemed to stand out from the other mostly because according to  Bunting it is, “a tribute to the Groom Lake military base where the government developed the SR-71 Blackbird - or, depending on the conspiracy theories you choose to believe, where
they stored a recovered alien spacecraft.”
While that sounded impressive enough on its own, he continued, “Either way, you'll be in an out of buildings frequently here, not to mention using a multi-million-dollar piece of reconnaissance aircraft for cover. But that's not the only secret project it's
hiding. Hangar 18 has a couple of fun Easter eggs.”
Other maps included Drive-In; set in an ‘American movie paradise’. The map is set to offer plenty of sniping spots for players who prefer the one-shot one-kill approach to playing the game, while at the same time keeping the size of the map small.
Silo is another dynamic map, where, according to the developer, missiles will be launching at regular intervals, giving players more obstacles to overcome if they want to make their kill.
Lastly, for the competitive multiplayer maps, there is Hazard; the map has a Cuban golf course setting and is tailored towards players who like to sniper or use assault rifles.
There is also Shangri-La; the Zombie map, set in what seems to be in a Mayan/Aztec setting. The map will reintroduce players to the excitement and the horror that only zombies can bring, and should be reason enough for players to purchase the DLC.
