Electronic Arts have publically announced that they are fans of the Elite service that Activision provides to its fan base and looks to open a similar social platform.
It is no secret that Activision and EA have been at each other’s throats over the past few months as both publishers looked to get the upper hand prior to the release of their respective titles.
Back then, Activision was busy raising the hype levels for their modern military first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and EA were trying to turn a few heads with their title, Battlefield 3.
Things got serious when a representative of Activision was not allowed to enter the EA booth where they had set up a demo of the third installment of the Battlefield franchise. Activision later responded by stating that they were more focused on creating a game and not an engine.
That was a jape at how EA and DICE were boasting about the FrostBite 2 engine that powered Battlefield.
The war of words continued with the highlight coming when EA used the ‘Above and Beyond the Call’ as their tag line for the game, which was an obvious swing aimed at the Call of Duty series.
Everything seemed to have quieted down and now it seems that both parties are busy praising each other.
Peter Moore, who is the chief operating officer at EA, went on record to compliment Activision on their Call of Duty themed social networking site, Elite.
“To Activision’s credit, what they did with Elite – certainly when speak to retailers who were selling the cards, and you speak to gamers who think it’s a great deal – they’ve done a phenomenal job in marketing digital content going forward.”
He continued by explaining that EA were looking into something similar for their titles as well, “Certainly we’ve got a digital content flow yet to be announced on that. We will look at different business models that will make a good value for the consumer.”
He went on, “We continue to look at how we keep the disc in the drive, as we say.”
