Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Hardened Edition in production
Infinity Ward have confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will ship with a Hardened Edition, when the game releases in November.
The Comic-Con convention is great for a number of things and one of them is the game related merchandise launch announcement, as well as special edition launch announcements for various games. In this case, Infinity Ward used the platform to talk about the
upcoming Hardened Edition for their latest instalment in the Modern Warfare series.
Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s creative strategist, has been in the news quite a bit recently, with the latest headlines quoting him as saying he would actually buy a copy of Battlefield 3, with the game being a direct competitor for Modern Warfare 3, come
its release.
He confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 would also be shipping out with a Hardened Edition along with a Standard Edition and to prove it, he posted a picture of the Hardened Edition along with a tweet, “Hardened Edition, literally on the factory line.”
Many gamers will remember that Call of Duty: Black Ops was released in three different editions as well. The Standard Edition, which included the game by itself, the Hardened Edition, which included a number of extras and finally the Prestige Edition, which
included all the extras of the Hardened edition as well as a remote controlled car.
All three editions were well received by the public as the game broke the sales records which had been set by the previous titles in the series.
The move comes as a welcome one, seeing how competition for sales will be fierce come the game’s release, as Battlefield 3 precedes the release date of Modern Warfare 3 by just over a week, with the former releasing just before November.
Both games are ranking high on the pre-order charts, with Modern Warfare 3 just edging out the competition, but the news of the latest edition is sure to boost the number of Pre-Orders for Activision’s favourite child.
The news itself gave rise to an increasing level of speculation surrounding the announcement of a Prestige Edition of the game. However, neither Bowling nor Activision have commented on the matter, which in some ways can be taken as a confirmation, and seeing
how successful Black Ops’ Prestige edition was, it seems a certainty.
To get an idea of what the Hardened Edition may hold, one could go back to Black Ops, where the edition had an art boo, DLC content, steel-book casing and avatar outfits.
Bettor.com will keep gamers up to date on the latest Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and other news from around the world of gaming as and when it happens.
