Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign is longer than Modern Warfare 2 – PS3, Xbox 360, PC
The hype and expectations surrounding the next instalment in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series are beyond astronomical and Sledgehammer, the game’s developer, is looking to appease the legions of loyal curious fans by announcing that the single player
campaign in Modern Warfare 3 will be longer than its predecessor.
According to a certain Mr. Glen Schofield from Sledgehammer, the game is considerably longer than the rather short, yet filled with incredible set-pieces, single player campaign.
While not putting it in definite measurable terms, he did say, without actually specifying that “My (Scholfield’s) feeling – and the feeling of most of us (at Sledgehammer) – is that it’s longer than Modern Warfare 2.”
It may not be the most definitive statement, nor does it do much to quantify the length of the single player experience, unlike Rocksteady who explained that their latest game, Batman: Arkham City, would last over 24 hours in terms of single player.
At the same time, however, single player is a slightly lower priority when it comes to Modern Warfare games, despite the fact that one of the characters, Ghost, went on to gain a huge fan following.
While quantity may still be an issue, it seems that quality should be of no real concern as the game is set to be the only first person shooter on consoles which will be running at a smooth 60 fps (frames per second).
Even more encouraging is the statement that the campaign is currently being ‘polished like crazy’, which sounds much more encouraging than ‘feeling’ something is longer.
Short or not, Modern Warfare 3’s single player experience is a unique selling point when compared to its nearest competitor, a certain Electronic Arts developed, Battlefield 3, which will offer no single player whatsoever.
One can expect plenty of set pieces, Hollywood-esque action sequences and most importantly a reason to shoot guns, as well as rockets at enemy soldiers.
Modern Warfare 3 is set to release this November and is still expected to sell in the millions, despite the fact that it will be facing stiff competition from the likes of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
and Battlefield 3.
The fact of the matter is that there is immense pressure on Modern Warfare 3, which not only has to outdo Modern Warfare 2 -a mammoth task in itself- but it must also remove the slightly bitter taste Call of Duty: Black Ops left in everyone’s mouth.
One can expect many more snippets of news regarding the game to find their way to the gaming community between now and the game’s release and one can only hope that we get more concrete statements than just ‘feelings’.
