Activision’s latest instalment in the first-person shooter series manages to hold off Skyrim, Just Dance 3 and Battlefield to remain the best selling game for January.
It comes as no surprise that Modern Warfare 3 saw is the best selling game in the United States and there would certainly be a cause for concern if it was not. Yet, one has to give credit where it is due as Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games have delivered a game that builds on the success of the previous two entries in the Modern Warfare series.
In fact, Activision must have a very healthy bank balance, especially if one reminds themselves of the fact that Modern Warfare 3 broke the industry record for earning $775-million in just five days, following the game’s launch.
In the US however, the game seems to be minting money at a constant rate, with the game topping the charts for their third consecutive month.
The modern-military first-person shooter managed to hold on to the top spot in the charts despite facing competition from titles such as Just Dance 3 and the IAA Game of the Year, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Skyrim has also been selling rather well in nearly every territory that the game has been released.
In fourth place is the latest iteration in the popular 2K series with NBA 2K12 with EA and DICE’s Battlefield 3 rounding up the top five selling games for the previous month.
Other notable titles in the top ten include Madden NFL 12, which also sold rather well in the United Kingdom, and Mario Kart 7, which is in the top few places in the Japanese sales charts.
Zumba Fitness 2: Party Yourself is also in the top ten in the US and that has to make for some disappointing reading for the hardcore gamers out there.
Rounding up the top ten spots is Saints Row: The Third, which has been a massive hit and received praise from almost every review site and fan; al least, from those who have a sense of humour about them.
All in all, it seems that no one can stop Modern Warfare 3 from emptying out the world’s bank accounts and piling all that money into Activision’s own safe.
