Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on PlayStation 3 dominates the charts in Japan of all places!
The Japanese video game sales charts have always followed a different trend than the rest of the world, especially when it comes to the genre of games that dominate the top five spots in the charts.
Many studio’s have tried developing games to suit both western and Japanese tastes yet more often than not they tend to have failed. So it comes as surprise then that Activision’s latest instalment in the modern military first-person shooter series is the
current best seller in Japan.
Here is the chart in full:
10. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3: bringing the legends of both the Marvel universe of comic books and the Capcom universe of video games the game debuted at number ten, with the PlayStation 3 version selling 22,436 copies in its first week.
9. Sengoku Basara 3 Utage: very few in the west may have heard about this game, yet it has been selling rather well in Japan as the PlayStation 3 title added another 25,771 sales to its total sales’ figure of 149,968-units sold.
8. Hatsune Miku Project Diva Extend: the first of many portable games on the chart, Project Diva has sold even more impressively than its number nine counterpart. With a total sales figure of 214,715 the game sold an impressive 30,042 units
in the previous week.
7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: the Xbox 360 version of the game managed to debut in seventh place, which is quite an achievement seeing how the 360 does not sell very well in the region.
6. Final Fantasy Type-0: no Japanese gaming chart is complete without at least one Final Fantasy game in the mix and the PSP title, Type-O, waved the flag for the series in the previous week with another 30,543 units sold. It total sales
in the region stand at an impressive 682,173-units sold.
5. Saints Row: The Third: debuting in the charts in the top five is the wacky, over-the-top open world sandbox game, Saints Row: The Third. It seems wackiness transcends cultural boundaries if one was to look at the 36,222-units sold in
its first week.
4. Super Mario 3D Land: giving 3DS owners an excuse to wipe the dust off their consoles is the latest in the Mario series which has sold just under half-a-million units in its lifetime and 62,318 units in the past seven days.
3. Ni No Kuni: the PlayStation 3 title debuts in the top three and knocks Mario 3DS Land out with 67,032-units sold.
2. One Piece Gigant Battle! 2: Another debutant in the top three is Namco Bandai’s DS title with a staggering 116,062-units sold.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: surpassing expectations in the region, Modern Warfare 3 debuts at number one in the charts with the PlayStation 3 version selling an impressive 180,372-units.
