Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 returning to original Modern Warfare roots for its multiplayer
Activision, the game’s Publisher, seem to be coming full circle with their latest installment in the worldwide gaming phenomenon, the Call of Duty franchise. Teaming up with Sledgehammer, the game’s developer, the two are attempting to mould Modern Warfare
3’s multiplayer experience around the same one which made the original Modern Warfare so successful.
That is not to say that Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer was bad in any sense of the word, seeing how it was the most played online first person shooter of its time, but the overpowered ‘Kill streak’ reward system was, on occasion, a source of frustration.
Treyarch changed things around with their Kill streak system in Black Ops, simplifying it and making earning those awards more challenging.
However, the one thing that annoys gamers to this day is camping (which Bettor.com defines as ‘staying at the same spot and racking up kills, without the use of any skill or talent’). Camping strategies were developed and exploited and while it was both
fun and rewarding for the camper, it really took away the charm from the game.
Sledgehammer (and what is left of Infinity Ward), however, are attempting to ensure that no player will be able to camp in Modern Warfare 3, by giving fewer places to hide, and reducing hard to reach areas, which were a hot-bed for camping activity.
Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s creative strategist, while speaking at a recent interview explained, “What happens when you have more is that the professional guys are using that spot that is either difficult to get to. There’s fewer places to hide, which
discourages the camper mentality that seemed to emerge in the map design of Modern Warfare 2.”
With more emphasis being laid on removing the effectiveness of camping, the game’s developers still felt there was something that would make the third iteration of the Modern Warfare 3 series an improvement to its predecessor.
Bowling continued, “Modern Warfare style is, for me, all about the high-speed, fast-paced-and I'm talking in terms of smooth controls and 60-frames-per-second frame rate-infantry-focused combat.”
Apart from explaining what the game was focused on achieving, in terms of feel in the multiplayer mode, it seems to have become a trend for those involved in the game to emphasize on the impressive 60 frames per second output that Modern Warfare will run
at.
Bowling managed to sum everything up in a short and simple sentence, which will have fans of the original Modern Warfare game smiling from ear to ear, “It's all focused on that gun-on-gun gameplay, especially in Modern Warfare 3.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to hit stores on the 8th of November, later this year and to read Bettor.com’s Holiday Season guide on the game click http://www.senore.com/Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-3-Bettor-coms-Guide-to-Video-Games-for-the-Holiday-Season-Part-3-a82763
