Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to take a Wii, Activision to release FPS on Nintendo’s console
Nintendo Wii users finally have something to throw back in the faces of everyone who accuse them of not being hardcore gamers, as Activision have announced that their next Modern Warfare game will be making its way on to the Wii.
The Nintendo Wii was branded and launched as a family oriented, friendly option for gamers, though later on it became the console aimed at casual gamers.
What set it apart from the other consoles of its generation was the fact that while both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 relied on the conventional controller for games, Nintendo went the other way and opted for motion controlled gaming.
The early success of the Wii saw sales figures sky rocket, as Nintendo struggled to keep up with global demand, however, with the release of Sony’s PlayStation Move controller and Microsoft’s Kinect peripheral, things changed.
However, at a recent investors meeting, Activision announced that a Modern Warfare 3 title would be making its way onto the Wii. The exact release date was not given, though many speculate the game will release sometime this year.
This will be the second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game to be released on the Wii which, apart from a handful of hardcore titles, does not have much to offer the fps demographic. The original Modern Warfare was released on the Wii after spending an extra
two years in development and Modern Warfare 2 opted to stay as far away from the word Nintendo as it could.
There were various reasons for the move, but the most commonly agreed upon was the fact that the motion controller Nintendo had would not be suitable for the fast-paced all action gameplay the Modern Warfare games are known for.
What caused Activision to make a U-turn however, is still in the air, though seeing how the announcement was made in an investor meeting; it might just have been to squeeze out a few extra dollars. Again, that is just the conspiracy themed angle we here
like to think from.
Gamers should not expect the same Modern Warfare 3, which will be shipped on the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360, as Nintendo’s console does not support High Definition graphics or the same controller set up.
It seems Activision may just have made the move in order to ensure good relations with Nintendo, who recently unveiled their next generation console the Wii U.
Gamers can get the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions of the 8th of November later this year, and Bettor.com will keep you up to date on any new developments of the Wii’s version of Modern Warfare 3.
