Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to top the sales charts according to Ladbrokes and Paddy Power
Two of the United Kingdom’s largest betting sites, Ladbrokes and Paddy Power, have released their odds on which game will emerge on top in the hectic Christmas period with Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the clear favourite.
While the saying, ‘You can bet anything on anything’ may sound slightly open ended and vague, there is plenty of truth behind it, as both Ladbrokes and Paddy Power are accepting bets from the general public on which game will end up top of the charts for
the Christmas period.
Ladbrokes have released a lengthy list of odds, with almost every game that is releasing before the Christmas period on it, including some of the games that have already been released, such as Dead Island and FIFA 12, among others.
Pointing out the seemingly obvious, it seems that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 appears to be the clear favourite with Ladbrokes offering odds of 1/12 while Paddy Power seem even more sure and are offering 1/16.
The term safe bet is passed around a bit too often in today’s age but if ever there was a situation for which it was meant, this would definitely be it.
The previous two Call of Duty titles, Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, shattered all the records that had been set in the industry, with the latter managing to earn $650-million in its opening five days.
However, in a release window filled with some of the biggest franchises in the gaming world, it will be interesting to see which game comes second.
Ladbrokes seem to think that a large number of gamers are waiting for the Christmas period to purchase their copy of FIFA 12 as it comes in at second and Paddy Powers seem to agree with their competitor.
Things begin to diverge after this point though as Ladbrokes has Assassin’s Creed: Revelations pegged in at third with Paddy Powers going for Gears of War 3.
It is interesting to note that the addictively challenging action role-playing-game, Dark Souls, is also expected to sell in fairly large quantities during the same period, despite the fact that the game is slipping down the current sales charts.
The rest of the chart may be filled with big names such as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Batman: Arkham City, but a notable absentee is Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
In short the only part gamers and potential gamblers need to concern themselves with is the top spot, where Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 sits comfortably.
All the signs are pointing to Activision’s title emulating what its predecessors have done in the past: sell in the millions!
