Question:

Call waiting - off the hook?

When you call someone and hear the message meaning they have call waiting, eg "the person you are calling knows you are waiting please hold the line whilst we try to connect you" does it necessarily mean they are on another call or could they just have the phone off the hook?

Would you get this call waiting type message if they weren't on another call, just had the receiver off?

thanks!

  1. If the phone is off the hook it will go to call waiting if that is activated on the line, Kerry's goes to BT answer as that is what she has? The system will see the line is engaged and treat it as the line is in use but this would also include for 'off the hook'. the person you are calling does not have BT answer....

  2. On the internet............

  3. OK, I have just tried it, and if you leave the phone off the hook and don't dial anything then the call goes to BT Answer (1571) so the must be on another call.

    Hope this helps?

Hi, yes we have call waiting on both the lines in the house. Other half works from home.

  4. if the phone is off the hook then call waiting is not going to work, it is going to give a busy signal, or go straight to voicemail..

  5. no, I think that they are probably on the other line !!!
