  1. An HBCU is a historical black college and/or university. Here are a list of them in Texas.

    Private:

    Huston-Tillotson University

    Jarvis Christian College

    Paul Quinn College

    Saint Philip's College

    Southwestern Christian College

    Texas College

    Wiley College

    Public:

    Prairie View A&M University

    Texas Southern University

  2. I live in san antonio...at first if your a visitor you would most likely like it hear cuz it is a good place but after a looooong time youll get bored belive me....its a good town it isnt that bad....

  3. It's pretty boring here, and it's too hot. It's also full of illegals.

  4. i just moved here to dallas from orlando florida. it all depends on where ur coming from to decide if u will like it. but i can tell you, this area im in is not bad. its just VERY hot 102 but the weather says it feels like 112 because of humidity. theres a lot to do and there is a big mix of people. dont know what area you are looking at but Arlington or Euless is like on the outskirts of dallas. some people say the area is not great but its deffinatly not bad! im from orlando and people would be surprised on what you see there. here its pretty quiet, and hot really. But if ur looking to buy a house...they are cheap..until you look at the taxes here in texas. they are outrageous! a 600 dollar per month house will cost you around $950 after you pay your taxes. anyway..hope this helps

  5. Yeah, extremely hot, especially if you're from up North like me.

Houston has a lot of stupid laws, for example you can not buy alcohol at certain times or certain days, i can't remember I'm from up north, never had any stupid laws like where I'm from.

Every club you go to in Houston kicks you out by 1:00 am as big as this city is the city of Houston has a curfew law, so every concert you go to ends at midnight as well.

Police will pull you over for almost anything here because they have nothing better to do, so beware.

I hope you don't mind living around Mexicans because they're everywhere, they out number the white people , people aren't as racist as they used to be 10 years ago but you are in Texas so expect a bit racist attitudes around here.

  6. I don't like Texas so i wouldn't recommend it.

    It's too hot

Too "congested" unless you're in a redneck podunk town like Navasota or Tyler

    Too many cops/

    Too d**n hot (oops lol)

NO mountains :( much less decent beaches like in CA or FL.

  7. Just like Railride... I am too a long time resident of Texas. I have been here for 39yrs and out of that time I have lived in El paso, Mineral Wells,San Antonio,Alvin. I have called Marble Falls and Kingland my second home due to extended family living there ( this is were you will find the Hill country ). Texas is BIG and depending on where you want to live and the kind of weather you want ... then you have to decide on where you want to live. Just like it was stated to you previously before.

Texas has a vast variety of landscape and weather and it is basically

divided in to 4 sections. The northern area is going to give you cold

during the winter and dry heat in summer, the west is cold& dry heat, south where I am at is humidity ( suck out the air in your chest ) heat & basically no winter , east pretty much the same as the south.

As for College ... all of them are great.. you just have to decide where you want to go. ANd yes we have mountaines regions despite what some may think.

So you have been give some great info... not so much by me , the

gentleman before me very resource and informative. But you have to decide on where and what will make you happy.

  8. I personally wouldn't go to a Texas HBCU. Look at Texas Southern, HELLO! Other state ones are better. The ones in Texas are like community colleges.

HOW the h**l can you call an open door admission institution a "university" if ANYONE can get in.

  9. Being a lifelong Texan of 55+ years, which also makes me an "oldtimer" who doesn't know what an "HBCU" is, I can tell you that I feel it is an EXCELLENT place to live, go to school, work, etc., etc., etc..  As I once told one of my son's Army buddies when they asked a similar question, "Texas is spelled B-I-G, and you can live with all types of people, in all types of commuinties / cities, and  there's a LOT of 'best cities or towns', so, you  have to decide what kinds of people you like, consider the likelihood of what type of environment they live in, and move there."  You can live in dry climate, or very humid climate.  You can live on flatlands or deep in the woods as I do, or in the mountains.  You can live next to a large body of water (Gulf of Texas: aka: Gulf of mexico) or you can live far away from the water as near Amarillo, or Odessa and Midland.  You can live where there are very cold winters, like in the panhandle, or in areas where winter is hardly experienced, like near the Gulf.  College?  That question has way too many answers to list here, so you  just have to decide what you want to learn and where  you want to live, and then go from there.  As I said, Texas is spelled "B-I-G", so it's totally your choice.  It's all here, and it's great!!  God Bless you.
