I get a recorded message that numbering in costa rica has changed so the standard 011 506 isn't working. Nor is +506.

Anyone know why?

  1. yes I´m from here.... Costa Rican telephone users rate grew so there were not enough numbers, so they converted the numbers from a six digit to a seven digit number.

The only thing that you have to do is put an extra 2 >(if it a house number or commercial number) BEFORE the number or an extra 8 (if its a cell phone)

    So it´s like this:

    506+2+number

    or

    506+8+number

    Hope it helps!!

  2. Calling from anywhere should be

    00

    506

followed by the costa rican 8 (not 7 digit number).

For a cell number (a number that started with a 3 or 8 before you need to add another 8 at the beginning)

For a regular landline (all other numbers you need to add a 2 before it)

    Example

    00-506-8-888-0000

    instead of

    00-506-888-0000
