Question:

Calling Optometrists: Huge concern with glasses...?

Hey hey hey, I was looking for anyone who can answer a few questions I have about my glasses (I'm really broke right now and don't want to pay a $25 co=pay if I don't have to):

1. I have one eye thats nearsighted and the other is farsighted, both with astigmatisms. I just got my glasses and one of the lenses, when I look through it, is not as clear/focused as the other lens. I feel when I wear my glasses my brain is using my left eye more to focus and I'm concerned that I'll develop a lazy eye. If you get glasses, shouldnt your eyesight through the glasses be clear or is it possible theyre trying to fix something?

2. MY EARS ARE REALLY UNEVEN! Haha, Its not my face, but definetly my ears. When I put on my glasses the left sits about a half inch lower than the right and I look awkward and its uncomfortable. What's something the optometry office will/can do to fix that?

I look forward to answers or insights that can tell me if I should just suck it up, or if I need to go in to get them fixed.

  1. Contact the place where you got them and get the eyeglasses adjusted so they fit you properly.  You should not have to pay the co-pay for that.

You may also want to consider contact lenses.  It will help even out your vision because it reduces minification/magnification.  I went for contacts because I have one eye with normal vision and the other has astigmatism.  The contact lens was much easier to adjust to.  I know you mentioned having some financial issues at the moment, you should look into it when you are able to.

  2. most places offer a warranty with the purchase of glassed up to one year. so just go back to the place u got them and let them know that u can see properly. they will either adjust it and ull b fine or if it is under warranty they will replace it at no charge. and if u have recently seen the doctor let them know ur concern. most of them don't mind seeing u for a followup or answer any questions. they are doctors and want to see that ur vision is great. but if it has been a year or two since u have been to the doctor, i say new exam for sure

  3. You may have amblyopia of the farsighted eye.  There is no certainty that both eyes will have the same visual acuity.

You will not develop a lazy eye.

All of these concerns are things your doctor should address.
