Calling UK to Japan?

I have a standard UK BT landline and a pay as you go orange phone. What are the cheapest options for me to call Japan? Particularly during the day, British time?

  1. I used to call my husband regularly from the UK when he worked in Japan. Buy an in International telephone card from the post office - they come in 5, 10 and 20 pounds. On the back of the card, it tells you the number to dial to get connected, then input the PIN number from the card, then dial the number you need in Japan. The cards last 3 months from when you first dial, so if you don`t make many calls, buy a lower value card. Also they make offers from time to time, so calls to certain countries are very cheap or free. At the time (about 4 years ago) the calls to Japan worked out to be less than 4p per minute (using NTL landline). We still use these cards to call Hong Kong and China...they are far cheaper than using landlines direct.

    You can also buy similar telephone cards from many Chinese/Asian supermarkets. They are often discounted too, so a 20 pound card might only cost 14 pounds.

  3. try bt for your broadband with a home hub. I can phone my bruv in China for 1.25p a  minute. probably about the same to japan.
