Calling a foreign operator?

I live in the UK. basically I have a mate who lives in Melbourne, Australia. I have their address, but not their phone number, and they are not listed in white pages.

anywho, I need to connect to the australian directory assistance, (which i think is 1223) and ask for their phone number.

can anyone help me out as to what number i should dial to connect to the directory assistance?

why don't you use the au. telephone book!!
