Okay i plan to travel to Australia when I am 4 years older when i will be18. Do you think I should start saving up my money to travel there? I get about $35 a week and in a year or 2 i can get a part time job. Also what are a couple of good travel tips? I plan to work there, since money doesnt grow on trees. What visa should i apply for? THANK YOU!!

  1. If you want to work when you get here, you'll need to get a Working Holiday visa which allows you to stay here and work for 12 months. For Americans, there are educational restrictions on WH visas so you will need to be enrolled in College and deferred before you will be able to get the visa, so that's the first travel plan you need to make - be prepared to enrol in college. If you're a Canadian, the college requirement doesn't apply.

And yes, start saving now. When you arrive, Immigration will want proof that you have money in the bank (to support yourself if you can't get work) and either a return ticket or the funds to buy one. You'll also need to buy health insurance for your stay.

It's a bit early for travel tips, but you should count on staying in hostels to keep your expenses down. They're great fun and you meet heaps of interesting people with useful advice on the next place to go, what work is about, how to travel etc.
