Small world Julie, did he ever tell you of the time that he shot a deer off his back porch six or seven times, untill he found out that it was a stuffed deer head that my dad and Mayhan stole from a bar and stuck in a grove of trees.

  1. Silver!!  & Tonto's horse was Scout

Trigger was Roy Roger's horse & Buttermilk was his wife Dale Evans' horse, etc.

    Chris LeDoux for sure.....

I liked a lot of his old songs, back when he sold cassettes out of his rig.  I still have mine, like Chris LeDoux "Life As A Rodeo Man"  (1975).  I was only 10 yrs. old.  Some of my favorites....

    The Yellow Stud

    Daddy's Biggest Dream

    Bad Brahma Bull

    Ten Seconds in the Saddle

    Come Riding Joe Cy

    Paint Me Back In Wyoming

    Rusty Spurs

Those are all I can think of right now.

NOT a Big & Rich fan & never have been.

    Do love George Strait though.....

Hey John, I thought you were a bull fighter!!  Sounds like you rodeoed in a pimp mobile!!!  LOL!!

    *EDIT*

    Moe Bandy!!  BB

I guess I should mention that although he was/is not a cowboy & his songs are honky tonk....I was in LOVE with Mickey Gilley for most of my young teens years & still enjoy his older songs.  Got to see him at our county fair & have my picture taken with him when I was a freshman in high school I think it was.

    *EDIT*

Oh Man!  I forgot about him!  WOW! We are old!!  LOL!!

O.K. how about Merle Haggard: Okie From Muskogee? or Fightin Side of Me?

  2. I'm runnin' way late tonight...

    Chris LeDoux it is...

My favorites...Call of the Wild and This Old Cowboy's Hat.

I met him in Longview, Texas and got a few photos with him.  I also have a few of him playing in a 'dive' bar joint he used to play in.

I was listening to him when LP's were sold out of his rig too.  I own most of his albums too.  Even keep the cassette tapes.  Don't know why...I have them on CD now.

Michael Martin Murphy is another favorite

Met him when he played in Johnson City, Tennessee...yes at a bar.  I wasn't always a mom with kids!  I wasn't a 'buckle bunny' either...so forget that notion John and Kevin!  And anyone else who knows what that means!  But I did spend alot of time under the 'neon moon.'

Oh geez!  I'm going to OD on nostalgia!!

Silver was the Lone Ranger's horse...

And I love Don Williams'...Good Ole Boys Like Me.  Don't care what anyone thinks about that one...It's my all time favorite.

    Bellamy Brothers...You Ain't Just a Whistling Dixie

Augh...there's one that I'm trying to pull from the dusty corners of my mind...he sang..."I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown"  WHO IS THAT???

**ahaa!  It was Moe Bandy!!  It's been long couple of days...my brain is fried!

    And SHE ain't a cowboy...but I like alot of Reba's songs too.

**Edit...thanks AM...Joe Stampey? teamed with him as I recall...

*****EDIT...I woke up this morning and thought about Dan Seals too! "I Think God Must Be a Cowboy at Heart"...

We are gettng old!! *still ODing today...guess what will be playing all day?*

  3. HOWDY!!!

Well, this cowgirl loves country music and I think that Josh Tuner has an ultra s**y deep voice...it gets me going...LOL

BUT, I have too many favorites to mention!!!!

The Lone Rangers mount would be Silver!!!

EDIT>>>  what about pathetic country singers!  How about Jewel....  SHE sucks...

  4. Im gonna agree with "what were they thinking" aka shadow. You wont be hearing any country music in my barn. Its gonna be heavy metal 93x. I do like a wide variety of music but just really haven't gotten into the current country rage. I have listened to Garth when he was popular, faith's husband Tim and the cutie with a shaved head and a great bod I cant remember his name. For old-time classics I will have to go with Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash and Kenny Rodgers. Oh and "High Ho Silver!"

  5. Chris LeDoux.  He grew up here in the Powder River Basin and I work with his family.  I mean, he was a REAL cowboy...before he ever started in music.

One time I had tickets to see him at the Colorado State Fair...but he was sick and they replaced him with Toby Keith...I stayed about 20 minutes and then went to look for a rope to hang myself with.  Unfortunately all the vendors were closed by then so I had to settle for going home.

OMG John, there's a kid here who pulls a trailer with a caddy...I thought it was HILARIOUS the first time I saw it.  The set of longhorns mounted on the front of it is even better.

  6. My favorite would have to be my nephew's Dad Shane Minor. He has some CD's out, but he mostly writes now. He is really good.

    A few of his songs:

    "Slave to the Habit"

    "Sliver of the Moon"

    "I Think You're Beautiful"

    He Co-wrote:

"I Got a Brand New Girlfriend"

    "Fall"

    "Beautiful Mess"

    and many many more!

The Lone Ranger's Horse: Silver (right?)

  7. Waylon Jennings

    Willie Nelson

    Johnny Paycheck

Whoever it was that sang "Put Another Log on the Fire"

    The horse was Silver.

    Anybody remember Luckenbach Texas?

  8. George Strait!  At least he knows the difference from healing and heading!  The rest are dont know wether to be on mtv or cmt......

  9. My favorite is Chris  Ledoux!!!!

Here are  a few of my favorite songs. My dad likes him, too.

    The Buckskin Lady

Mammas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys

    I Ride An Old Paint

    Bucking Machine

    He Rides The Wild Horses

    I Believe In America

  10. No one will ever be better than Chris LeDoux.  I love the song She's Tough, it describes me pretty well, it's even on the license plate on my truck!!!  It's hard to beleive he's been gone for three years now.

  11. Johnny Cash.

He could sing anything from modern day covers to beautiful gospel and make it his. You can't deny that he influenced every country and western artist who was ever around him.

    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=_RLiuPRMJy...

    God rest his soul.

    Kris Kristofferson

    Wayland Jennings

    Willie Nelson.

I mean h**l, who couldn't love the Highwaymen.

Their "Last Cowboy Song" and "Desperados Waiting for a Train" truely brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear em.

    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=rJA4TGOAn9...

.. and Roy Rogers. That fat cat could sing!

    http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Nfp-5n7kc4...

  12. His horses name was Flicka

and my favourites are (don't shoot me)..........Lonestar

    and

    Cringes......3/

    Faith Hill

  13. I'm gonna go with one of my all time favorite musicians, Johnny Cash!!!!!

I have to say, I don't listen to much of the new age country so i don't even know who's lingering around anymore... I love the oldies but goodies, and I reaaaally love me some rock n roll.

  14. lone ranger is like star or shooting star i dont really like the music tho!

  15. Not what you'd call a cowgirl - so forgive me for trespassing into your question !

The lone Ranger's horse was Silver ( I used too have the fully poseable figure when I was little lol!)

As for the music side of things - Johnny Cash, Waylon and several others who's names had sadly slipped my mind right now.

But ! I have to agree also with the ones who mentioned the heavy rock on the stable yard -yes I'm afraid there is room there for Alice Cooper and Marylin Manson.

  16. the late great Chris LeDoux would be my favorite singer/cowboy and my favorite song is "cadillac cowboy" because i used to drive to the rodeo in a 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 limo with a two horse s&h bumper pull behind it.still have the caddy(cant afford the fuel for it,it has a 472 motor),sold the trailer.the lone ranger rode "silver"

i used to play bass and the dogs dont howl when i sing so thats a good sign.

for those of you who are to young to know or the english riders who dont know real cowboys Chris sang a song called "this cowboys hat" you should listen to,you will have a good idea of what we are.

Julliann, those old caddy's were like driving your sofa down the road and had a backseat that was more comfortable than the floor of a seedy local motel (it also smelled better) mine is long and black with landou bars on a vinyl top with tinted windows and the trailer was an old S&H aero that was black with red scallops and silver pinstriping.my caddy still has the radio shack "outlawed"cb with a 6' firestick.

it is a riot when some friends of mine and me get dressed up in our old rockmount ranchwear sawtooth shirts, wrangler straight leg cowboy cut pants with the cuff turned up (3" of course) ,old two toned scalloped stove pipe boots and our indian belts with ranger buckles and wearing our silver belly low crown hats and our gold chain listening to classic country blaring from the old caddy to a rodeo.

hey Kevin, remember Ferlin Husky, the bellamy brothers,Bill Anderson,Hank Snow,Johnny Horton,Kitty Wells and Lefty Frizzell ? i grew up listening to them.

i always traveled with friends and my traveling partner was a pickup man so we loaded his horses in the trailer when we rodeo'd ,i beats leaving my rig at a rodeo grounds if i got injured.

  17. Hi Ho Silver...... Away! LOL

Chris LeDoux is the obvious answer to this one but also consider:

Ian Tyson is THE Ultimate Canadian Cowboy Singer!!!

Corb Lund has put some interesting stuff out there he tends to cross into farmboy stuff that I like

Allen Christie is one of my favs "Old Bronc Saddle" here's some of the lyrics as not too many people know of him:

"Well I've never seen a pony that I couldn't stay on

But I've seen the underbelly of a bronc a time or two

And I've been bit and I've been kicked

And I've been drug along the fence a time or two

I'm an old bronc saddle two swells and a cantle

    A rawhide lazyboy

I've seen the Pengelly ponies and the C lazy S

    And the Northcott rank ones

    here we go now..."

Marty Robbins - love the gunfighter ballads disc

    Micheal Martin Murphy "Morning Ride"

    Bellamy Brothers "Redneck Girl"

George Strait has some gooders- but a lot of success in the mainstream has him steering away from the good cowboy tunes

Tom Russell "Rambler Gambler" "Tonight We Ride" "The Banks of the Musselshell" etc

Gotta have Hank, Hank Jr and Hank III on the list "Texas Women" "Thrown Out of the Bar"

Tom T Hall "I Like Beer"

Tom Paxton "Wasn't that a Party"

If you don't know some of these songs/artists look them up and give them a try.

  18. Silver was his name...and rearing was his game.  Sorry, got carried away.  I like "Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys." sung by Willie Nelson.

EDIT*****Hey Shadow, I beat the time record I think, I got of of those neat little thumbies before I even finished my answer.

  19. BIG and RICH rock this girl's world. . . sry they're the only country singers i know of and like all their songs. hehe.

and i dont know the horse part of the question.

silver? see now if i guessed i'd guess someone else's horse's name and everyone would be laughin, but not as hard as i am at me not knowing Silver's name.

hehe, i get thumbs down for either liking only one country group or not remember the name of the horse. thanks! maybe i can break mah record of thumbs down, keep em commin.

I'm changing my answer. YET again. . . linkin park, manson and red hot chili peppers are my newest choices. . . i like em more anyway. hehehehe... there goes that fun question with an uptight country gal.

bobbi! SO not FAIR for you to take away MY thumbs down! sides i dont count as a country girl, i may live in the sticks, but hard core rock music or punk any day of the week.  .  . so i dont count as a farmgirl in any sense of the word. hehehe. *takes some of bobbi's thumbs down* mine now. hehe (god i'm in too good of a mood, someone slap me).

so change of answer again- any country song that is upbeat and fast. i cant stand slow songs but as you said not all country songs are slow.

  20. My favorite Cowboy song is:

    I Should've Been a Cowboy

    by Brooks and Dun

Cowboy singers are a thing of the past. I don't think they exist in the mainstream of country music anymore.

I would have to say my favorite cowboy singer was:

Gene Autry. He sure was when I was a kid.

Hey I can sing and play guitar.

  21. Ian Tyson

    Joni Harms

    Michael Martin Murphy

    And of course... Chris LeDoux

Edit:  I haven't played the drums since school - but if there are cute girls in Wranglers and cowboy hats.... I would make a h**l of a groupie!

  22. Gosh. Tough question... I'll figure out a song eventually.

Okay, Garth Brooks because I grew up listening to him. Then there's the ever-popular Johnny Cash (who was absolutely amazing).

I know the Lone Ranger's horse was Silver, though.

So, Kevin, who's your favorite singer?

That bad part is, I grew up with that. Now I end up listening to indie rock instead. haha.

super_goofychick, I pity you. You chose a great cowboy singer, and you are being thumbs-downed because you are speaking against the "country-rock" singers. Whoever's doing the thumbs-downing, way harsh.

  23. chris ledoux here! garth brooks is ok but he's certainly not chris! favorite songs.. hmmm i like one ride in vegas and whatcha gonna do with a cowboy? silver was the horse ;)

Oh and Johnny Cash...Kenny Rogers...tooo many to mention.

Bobbi...you had to mention Willie...lol...my favorite is Poncho and Lefty :D

I don't like Merle Haggard though...I did in that song...but went to a concert and he was so drunk it was awful.

    Ya'll  have a good night :D

Awww...c**p...I had to come back one more time...The Charlie Daniels Band....Devil Came Down to Georgia =)
