Calling all guitar tone freaks and sound gear techs

Question

Whats the best way to get that "just enough"thickness and crunch guitar distortion found on most choruses on the Weezer Blue Album? How about the wah pedal(s) sounds?

Please feel free to recommend certain amps and/ or pedals...

Rivers has been known to use cheap strat copies a lot of the time. I have also seen him use a les paul.

You're gonna want to get a nice Marshall if you truly want to replicate their tone. If you cheap out on the gear you wont get as good of a sound as you would if you shelled out more money for better stuff. Tube amps all the way.
