  1. Yes, It was scary. when I was 16 I wne to the grocery store to pick up some stuff and I saw this man following me and I didn't think anything of it. When I went to my car he tried to grab me. I Broke his wrist using some akido, kicked him in the groin and ran. Who knows what could have happened. So yeah it did help.

  2. yes... see past similar questions as they are answered fully.

Yes, I have used my art for self-preservation.It was not cool, it was not fun, it was not like Hollywood.

It was quick, scary, dirty, dangerous, sloppy.

When the situation was over I vomited terribly from my nerves.

  4. Yes, I fought for my life when attacked. Yes, my martial training helped.

  5. A few times and as for details I had a hard time remembering everything that happened then except I was the one standing after it was over.I kind of went on auto pilot .I guess those 1000s of repetitions pay off .

I must mention that I had no other options but to fight and 2 instances involved ambush attacks they just weren't very good at it.

  6. Yes, for 10 years I was active soldier in an IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) Army unit responsible for keeping peace in a hostile urban environment, which meant going into enemy territory to prevent bad things from happening.

Over this period of time, I had disarmed and reduced the threat posed by many bad people.  I have done this many times.  Only once in the US have I had to disarm an attacker, an untrained drug addict with a knife, desperate enough for money to attack an unarmed civilian on a date, I was nice, I only broke his shoulder, I didn't kill him.  Totally ruined the date which was odd, she was South Korean and had studied TKD, I guess she had never been exposed to this kind of thing.  Maybe it was the brutality of it, maybe it was because I insisted we take the subway in town, who knows.

I am trained in Krav Maga and I teach Krav Maga, I am also a student of Combat SAMBO, I find these types of martial arts more to my temperament than traditional martial arts.

The man I study Combat SAMBO with was granted the rank of Grandmaster under the Soviet system, in which rank can only be earned, not bought as in the USA.  At 5'4" and 130 lbs, he was at first an MP and then later an instructor for the Soviet Army and other Soviet institutions.

For a while, when I first came to this country I studied Kempo, fortunately the sensei was a retired US Marine, with some sense of reality.  After earning a black belt,  I studied Taijiquan, which may have great health benefits but was beyond my simple sensibilities, although I still enjoy the forms as exercise and meditation.  I can see the applications, but I am a practical man.

In addition to regular training I have given LEO (Law enforcement Only) seminars and other seminars.  I hope this answers your question.

  7. been attacked by junkie(well was high) armed with a knife, i reckocnised the situation and acted i cant really describe what i did as i did pretty much automatically, but either way my training helped. ive also had to use it in school yard situations but that doesnt really count.
