4000 a month with a rent payment of 719 and bills that equal less than 200 a month ( have only energy and heat to pay for, no cable, no phone bills and no car), that's doable for a 6 person household right?

My husbands work picks up our phone and cell phone bills as part of his monthly pay and we live in a community with a great public transport system so we take the bus or walk instead of having a car.

  1. It would be more than plenty for us. I'm meticulous with finances, so that would leave around 2k/month after bills for us.

We are a family of 4 right now (#5's in the belly lol). Bills for us are like this:

    884 mtg payment

    72 car insurance

    361 car payment

    80 power

    13 water

    109 phone/cable/internet(30 after next week, ending internet/cable)

100 gas (don't drive much, and have a very gas efficient car)

    400 food

    100 diapers/formula, baby food ect.

43 AHS home "warranty" repair plan.

209 To my doctor (insurance only covers 75%..so we have 2 payments left on my pregnancy)

    = 2271.00/month total bills

After our 2 payments to my doctor, and cancelling the cable/internet it'll = 1983.00

Husbands income is 700-800/week take home = 2800-3200/mo take home (depending on his overtime hours). Our health insurance plan runs just over 300 a month, but is deducted out of his pay...so we don't have to budget that or anything.

So we have 500-1000 left over monthly now. Soon to be 800-1200 monthly after my doctor is paid, and cable/internet is gone.

I'd say 4k a month would pay for everything just fine!

  2. Sounds a little on the low side for energy and heat.....maybe add another 100 at least. Don't forget food and household items. It seems your on the right track.

  3. well im not a mom but theres 6 people in my family and house

we spend $1600 a month on groceries and cleaning supplies

then we spend about $6700 on bills, car ,house ,phones, medical all the rest

  4. It is all going to depend on where you live and how expensive the basic needs are. Here a gallon of milk is $3.47 and a loaf of bread is 89 cents. As a family of 5 my bills are around $3600 a month. We dont live cheaply but we dont have car payments, loans, or credit cards. We also live in a fairly cheap area where everything costs much less. We enjoy steak, shrimp, and fresh veggies. I dont buy generic and my kids wear name brands.
