Why is there any burden of proof on any atheist? (so long as that atheist is not claiming to KNOW that there is no God. The argumentum ad ignorantiam fallacy is not being committed if one simply cites a lack of evidence as justification for the rationality of believing that God does not exist)

I find it a little ridiculous to request proof of God's NON-existence; what evidence would you expect to find for the non-existence of anything? If it DOESN'T exist, then surely the only possible evidence that COULD exist for this is:
a) Purely rationalistic (i.e. to demonstrate that it's existence is a logical impossibility - which, in many cases, may well be impossible in itself. This doesn't mean that they exist though......)
