  1. Suck it up what kind of pansey are you? 10 inches of snow is no excuse for not showing up for work . You should be FIRED.

  2. I would do the same thing if I didn't own a Jeep.  It goes practically everywhere so I don't have a problem in the snow, mud, sand, etc.  But before I had my jeep I did the same thing a couple times because the vehicle I had wasn't exactly the greatest in the snow, and after doing a 180 in the middle of a hill on the highway heading to work one morning in the snow I decided it wasn't worth me driving to work that day.  Plus I got a lot of things done around the house.  So really I didn't loose much other than a couple bucks.

So really you have to think about whether you want to take the risk of getting into an accident and being seriously injured or even killed (which case you wouldn't get to work anyhow) or just staying home.

  3. If it isn't safe to drive,  then don't.     You probably did the employer a favor if so many others didn't show also.   Had you gotten there,  odds are you would not have gotten much done.

  4. I identify with you.  I always feel guilty if I call off, too, but it is the best thing to do if it is unsafe to go in, or if you are really sick.  Last year I went in to work on a very bad snow day, because I lived close and walked in.  Later that day, I had to drive my boss's van to go pick up another coworker, and I was fishtailing all over the place in the 10 minute drive.  Luckily, I didn't get in an accident, but really... you have to put safety first.  Safety for yourself and for the other people on the road.

If it's 10 inches of snow, your workplace should have closed, unless it's a hospital or something.

  5. Remember safety is always first and you are doing the smartest thing.

  6. You worry because you are conscientious -- that is the same reason that you told your staff to take care of themselves and family at home, and not go out on slick, snowy roads where they could easily have been in accidents.

You made the right call, IMO.
