  3. Hi, Mike Blackmore played on the wing for Hull Kingston Rovers from the late-fifties until the mid-sixties. Mike, who I believe was a Cornishman was one of a quartet of players recruited from rugby union in the south west to make the move north. The others were Graham Paul, Ted Bonner and, I believe, Jim Jenkyns.

Both Paul and Blackmore played in the first Hull Kingston Rovers team to ever play at Wembley when they were defeated by Widnes 13-5 in 1964. Paul played on the right wing while Blackmore was on the opposite flank.

Mike was a prolific tryscorer in the team and a firm favourite with the fans. I also believe that Mike, who formed a lethal left wing partnership with centre Terry Major, also played in the Yorkshire Cup Final defeat against Hunslet and was unfortunately one of three Hull KR players injured in the 12-2 loss having suffered a leg injury. I am currently compiling a book on 50 years of following the Robins and remember Mike Blackmore very well.

Sadly, I believe Mike passed away recently.
