Calling to Sydney, Australia from Seattle, WA?

Am I doing this right?

I'm using a calling card, so it goes like this:

1) number on calling card

2) pin number

3) international code 011

4) for New South Wales 61

5) city code Sydney 2

6) the actual phone number, 0123456789

I've dialed several numbers already (looking for an apartment) and keep getting a busy signal.

  1. If the actual number is 04xxxxxxxx, that is a mobile (cellphone) number. If so, you omit step 5 and omit the first 0 of the number.

    For example: Step1, step 2, step 3, step 4 then 4xxxxxxxx

No Australian landline numbers begin with 0, so if it's not 04, then the first couple of numbers are the area code and the rest is a landline (non mobile) number.

In that case, it's steps 1 through 4 as above (though 61 is the code for Australia, not NSW) then the actual number, omitting the first 0.

For example: Step 1, step 2, step 3, step 4 then everything except the first 0. In Sydney, I'd expect it  to end up as (after steps 1 and 2) 0116129xxxxxxx

  2. Hmm.. it should work fine that way, you were doing it right.. Since the number you want to dial starts with a 0, its a mobile/cell phone..

Just drop the 0 at the start of the actual phone number
