Question:

Callous caused by a bruise?

About 4 or 5 months ago, my 5 year old son fell on the playground at school, causing a bruise on his cheek below his eye. The bruise pertruded. However, we didn't think it was a big deal. But it never went away. So, I took him to the pediatrician to have him look at it and he said it's a callous caused by a bad bruise and it has to be removed because it could grow bigger and cause problems (i.e. get to close to his eye, etc). It can only be removed by a plastic surgeon. Has any one else heard of a callous caused by a bruise? I tried to look it up online but have had no luck.

  1. Yes, I have.  Make sure you have a doctor you trust. Since your son is so young; I would make sure to get at least 3 opinions and compare your best option.  Ask the doctor, if they have done a similar surgery on another child.  Your doctor should also be able to provide you with information on the subject! Good luck!!
