Callum Ross excels in Men’s 400m IM final – 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships
Great Britain’s Callum Ross excelled his performance in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) final, by improving the championships record of the event on the earliest day of the 3rd World Deaf Swimming Championships on Sunday, August 7, in Coimbra,
Portugal.
The championship is a long course event, which is supervised by the international aquatic sport’s governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA).
Ross lowered his own championship record of 4 minutes and 44.09 seconds, after he touched the finishing wall and submitted a stunning effort of 4 minutes and 38.43 seconds for the gold medal. He was followed by Ilya Trishkin of Russia, who was just 1.27
seconds behind the world champion and reported in a time of 4 minutes and 39.70 seconds. Similarly, Trishkin maintained a comfortable lead over his following swimmer and his team-member, Vitally Obotin, who claimed bronze medal of the event in a time of 4
minutes and 42.67 seconds.
Obotin was followed by Ryutaro Ibara of Japan, who stayed nearly ten seconds behind him and surfaced as the fourth finest swimmer of the event, with a timing of 4 minutes and 52.30 seconds. Jack McComish of Great Britain was just 0.26 seconds behind Ibara,
as he ended his swim in 4 minutes and 52.56 seconds.
Meanwhile, Philippe Oueliet of Canada was the sixth best swimmer of the eight-lap event, as he remained in a lead of 5.59 seconds over McComish and ended his swim in 4 minutes and 58.15 seconds. In the meantime, Ukraine’s Dmytro Kheilyk proved his legibility
for the seventh fastest spot of the swim, as he finished his swim and touched the finishing wall in a time of 4 minutes and 59.13 seconds. Final spot of the event was secured by Rolan Van Der Lugt of Netherlands, who stayed 0.42 seconds behind his foregoing
competitor and produced a time of 4 minutes and 59.55 seconds.
The arena expressed contentment over the furious swims of all participants, while the winners were invited to the medal rostrum after the session’s completion.
