  1. haha i had a russian dwarf hamster, too.

well it may be that your hamster is naturally spazy like that and hamsters do stay stiff and calm when in new environment. Also, being spazy is actually a good sign that he's healthy, (I'm not saying that your brother's hamster is unhealthy) so I think that you should just let him be.

    now please answer mine.

  2. Give it downers.  Just a little like pinch, 'cus u don't wanna kill it.  On the serious side, watch what u feed her.  Sugar causes restlessness.  So will some other chemicals.

  3. Awww.. Alvin for a girl - how cute. One thing I've learned from my years of owning hamsters is every hamster has their own UNIQUE personality. I think it's a matter of getting to know and appreciate your hamster (which it sounds like what you've done with Alvin). One thing you don't want to start is comparing Alvin's personality to

other hamsters - as know two hamsters are exactly alike personality. Sure, all hamsters have the same basic traits - nocturnal, eating, drinking and playing needs. But, personalities are completely unique.

Our first hamster was Syrian named Speedy - Speedy was a complete sweetie. Very relaxed and playful. Loved to play with kids and very social (loved meeting new people). But, when he wanted his alone time he let us know!

Our robo - Buddy,  was the most hyper. He seemed most happy on his own in his cage. Of course I took him out to try and socialize him as much as possible, but honestly he just seemed most content on his own.  He did enjoy his exercise ball though. We just let him do what he liked.

(Both hamsters had long lives for hamsters Speedy lived for three 1/2 years and Buddy for 2 1/2 years)

Now, Poppy our Dalmation hamster is our need to please girl.  She responds to my voice and will wake-up in the middle of day and go to the side of her cage to say Hi! She loves her play time and loves be held and solitary time in her ball.

One thing I have found with hamsters (this is just my experience) is you can't completely judge their personalities by the first day home. Your brother's hamster is still adjusting to his new home and he may have not completely shown how "outgoing" his personality can be.

As far as Alvin goes, just continue to play with Alvin - Little activities outside the cage. I set up a little box for Poppy with toilet paper rolls and I cut a hole in the side so I can reach my hand in and play too. I find she'll crawl on my hand or my kids hands.  Handling your hamster does the world of good.

It sounds like your already have a great relationship with Alvin, just keep playing with her! =)

  4. All hamsters are different.

I have two Campbell's dwarf, the same age, from the same litter. They are total opposites, one is fat, the other is skinny, ones lazy, the other is hyper.

Every hamster has their own personality.

  5. idk but i think a spazy hamster would be cool maybe see a vet if they can help

  6. just play with it lots so it gets use to you

  7. Here is a link that you might find helpful.

  8. one things for sure - DRUGS WON'T WORK!!! i don't think that you will be able to change anything like that in your hamster. like humans, hamsters have there own personalities. as long as you NEVER put them in the same cage, they should  be fine. you will just have to put up with a fussy little hamster that sounds like he likes attention. if you want to try something like changing his diet, research what in the foods do what.
