Question:

Calming liquid/tablets?

I was wondering if I should use any of those drugs that calm dogs. For example, quiet moments or be serene. My puppy exploded into a giant ball of energy when a thunderstorm struck and he started having accidents all over the place. Are these good for puppies that you just can't ware down? I took an entire day of walks and play with my puppy and he still had tons of bouncy energy. (14 week old lab)

What calming medication or drugs do you recommend?

  1. They have things like this at petco or petsmart, the one that I liked the best simply because it wasn't any form of drug was this diffuser that you plug into the wall. It emits pheromones that are intended to be calming. I didn't buy one so I can't tell you how effective it is, but its less invasive than any drug. If you need to calm your dog for any other reason like traveling, my vet told me that a low dose of benadryl is the safest bet.

  2. I am against using those drugs on dogs, you just aren't giving the dog enough exercise, and if he is afraid of thunderstorms, put him in his crate when there is a storm in your area. If you can't give him at least two good walks a day, you should have gotten an older dog that does not need as much exercise.

  3. Is your question how to calm your dog during a thunderstorm, or how to help your puppy calm down in general?

Puppies have a ton of energy - and exercise will help them tucker out.  However, puppies will be puppies.   They calm down naturally as they get older, but training is the best way to teach them to do the things you want them to do, and not to do the things you don't want them to do.

Some breeds have more energy than others - and could benefit from agility training to help them burn this energy.

There are some links below to answer most of thes questions.  Researching the breed(s) of your dog is the best way to answer your questions.

  4. no! how can people ever think about drugging there best frind! its didgusting! think about it! are u so lazy u cant train the dog? NO do NOT ever use them! it can even cause problems in  the futur! no no no

  5. Sounds like your pup needs much more exercise, and probably should begin puppy school. This dog is going to be hyper for the next two years plus. You don't manage that with drugs, you manage it with exercise and training.

  6. Sorry. No such thing for a puppy.

Did you do your homework before you got a puppy?

His energy is normal for a lab.
