Calming supplements?

I am considering using a calming supplement on a horse. She is an alfa mare, very high strung, and ETREMELY spooky. I tried one for 2 months and didn't see a difference. Are there any effective ones anyone uses?

  1. quietx.

i forgot how to spell it but you can get it at d&b or wherever else.

&& try lunging your horse before riding.

  2. quietex, worked for this insane horse at my barn, I swear by it!

this horse would spook at his own movements.

  3. Your horse lacks confidence and proper sentization/desensitization.  If you are unable to help her, find someone who can.  Believe me, it can be done with time, patience, and knowledge.  The OTC calming supplements will not be effective with this horse, and why continue to introduce herbs/and/or chemicals into a horse that is already troubled.  With your description of her, it is highly likely this horse has ulcers and extreme gastric distress.  It you heal her gut, it will help her.  Give her some good probiotics (it will take a while) but it will help her feel better.  Otherwise, she needs some training to help her cope with her fears.  Every horse can be helped if approached properly.

  4. quietex, if nessesary.  I myself would work on despooking her to stuff, before going to supplements, but thats just me.

  5. omg quietex does not work!!! Get some regimate (not sure how to spell it) I swear by it, I had a friends that had a mare just like that, she even put her hoof through the wall she kicked it so hard, because someone forgot to feed her first, Quietex will not work, don't waste the time or the money! I think that you can only get regimate from your vet, so talk to him/her!

  6. Anything that is trytophan based such as B Quiet would help but if you wish to go natural try chamomile flowers as this would be a better alternative you would use about 2 heaped tbsp per day in their bucket feed for a horse around 400 - 450 kilos in weight it does actually work and you can use them long term. Ask your health food store to supply them to you in bulk to get a discount.
