Question:

Calorie information on frozen veg packs - referring to cooked or frozen weight?

I've got some packs of frozen vegetables that list the calorie content in one 80g serving. For example, I have a bag of baby carrots that says one 80g serving of carrots (microwaved) contains 19 calories. This is probably a daft question but I'm assuming, because it refers to the cooking method, it means 80g of cooked carrots contains this amount of calories rather than 80g as weighed while still frozen and then cooked - is that correct?

Apologies if I'm being a dummy here. :P

  1. I think, and I'm guessing, that it refers to the frozen product.  so you weigh that amount and then cook it in the micro.  Honestly speaking, veg like carrots and broccoli won't make much difference to your overall calorie count, but avoid peas.  They are high in cals and not your friend.

  2. I think it's probably the calories for a cooked portion, but at only 19 calories, does it REALLY make a difference?

  3. 'Microwaved' means the calories when 'microwaved'...so that means cooked LOL

  4. I can't believe you count the cals in veg. You can eat as much as many carrots as you like, no matter what diet it is.
