im 14 yrs old

and weigh about 85 lbs

  1. If it is soley based on your weight and age, your daily energy needs is approximately 2150 cal.

    In order to calculate how many calories you need per day, you need to calculate BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate).  BMR takes into account the variables of weight, height, age and gender.

    It is more accurate than calculating calorie needs based on body weight alone.

    From your given parameters, BMR is approximately 1250 cal.

There are guidelines that say that most teens need 2200 calories a day, which is about 200 more than is recommended for adults.  However, this is just a guideline.  If you are eating 2200 calories (approximately) per day and losing weight, then you can eat more...and if 2200 calories per day makes you gain weight, then either increase your exercise and activity or eat less. :) Of course, if you are still growing, then of COURSE you will be expected to gain weight as you get taller.   At 85 pounds...you are tiny, and I expect you are not finished growing.
