50mL of 0.20M HCl at 25*C is added to 50mL of 0.20M KOH at 25*C in a coffee cup calorimeter, the mixture temperature rises to 26.4*C.

What is the heat of reaction per mole of acid?

Mixture c.p=4.18J/(g.K) Densities of reactant solutions both 1.00g/mL

  1. 50mL of 0.20M HCl at 25*C is added to 50mL of 0.20M KOH  = 100ml

    100ml @ 1.00g/mL = 100g

    dH = mCdT

    dH = 100g (4.18J/g-K)(1.4 C rise)

    dH = 585.2 Joules

    ====================

    50mL of 0.20M HCl

    0.050 litres @ 0.20mol/litre = 0.01 moles

    ==================

    585.2 joules / 0.01 moles = 58,520 Joules / mole

    your answer is 58.5 kJ/mol

    but if the ml & the Molarity do not have any more sig figs , you should consider rounding your answer off
