Question:

Caltrain Renovation?

Why are the trains used by Caltrain so slow? About a week ago I went from Redwood City to San Francisco and it took me an hour. When I was in Europe the trains were so fast, on the Eurostar London-Paris it only took me about 3 hours to travel over 200 miles, yet in the Bay Area it took me 1 hour to travel less than thirty miles. When will we catch up?

  1. The US government has simply not funded railways the way European governments have.  Americans tend to prefer to build freeways and roads, whereas Europeans prefer trains.

We are slowly catching up.  There is a high-speed rail initiative on the  California ballot this November, for example.
