Calypso Sheridan clinches Girls 100m breaststroke gold – State Teams SC Championships
Calypso Sheridan of QLD clinched gold medal of the Girls 100m breaststroke in 13-14 years age group on last day of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 13-year-old Sheridan impressed the aquatic crowd with her gruelling form in the 100m event and transpired on the finishing end as top fastest swimmer.
With her relentless efforts in the four-lap discipline, Sheridan stayed just a stroke ahead of her following swimmer and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 11.10 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Georgia Wells of QLD, who was 0.33 seconds slower from her and ended second in the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 11.43 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Mikayla Smith of VIC, who was exactly one second behind and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 12.43 seconds.
Smith was traced by Abbey Harkin of NSW, who was just a touch slower from overpowering her former finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 12.69 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Hadley Lindsay of WA, who was half body length apart and emerged on the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 13.30 seconds.
Lindsay was traced by Ella Bond of SA, who was 0.31 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 13.61 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Bond remained 0.34 seconds faster from Eilish Salmon of NSW, who completed her swim in seventh place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 13.95 seconds.
Salmon was traced by Bethany Allen of SA, who was 0.55 seconds apart and reported a time of 1 minute and 14.50 seconds for eighth position.
Furthermore, Sheridan was overjoyed with her invincible efforts in the race and said that she would continue her struggle to achieve the same at forthcoming events.
