ive just finished watching Calzaghe's latest Dvd collection recently out a friend lent me ,and to be frank it is a dissapointing list of rather sad charcters he' faced in his 'career'including poor little Manfredo. One thing that sticks out in numerous fights of his is he doesnt like to be given rough house treatment,he's ok dishing it out,but when the going gets rough our Joe starts getting frustrated and bad temperd with his silly grin and Ray leonard impression, and on three occassions he,in my books, has lost;Robin Reid,Sakio Bika and the latest with the Dane Kessler, only by a coupe (in Kesslers case 3)of rounds, but lost! Now he fights a middle aged Hopkins, and as usual thinks he can do his Mary Poppins act and take Hopkins to the cleaners,I think he's in for a surprise in April and if he survives the jet lag of fighting out of these islands and poor old fogey Hopkins doesnt break a hip,h**l get ko'd around rnd 10 and even scouse pitbul clarkie perv wont be able to save him!!!

  1. ray from west yorks is right... its the managers who make fights not the boxers. Calzaghe's manager is frank warren who has habit of picking opponents for his fighters when they are just past there best, or not fit to be in the same ring. Ricky Hatton once fell out with him and the matter ended up in the courtroom, hatton claiming that his opponents were not good enough. Hatton is a great and never ducked anyone , and admitted he was beaten by better man in floyd mayweather. I dont blame Joe for fighting these people but he should have ditched frank warren years ago while he had age on his side.

  2. Yes he is, I think hes g*y too.

  3. Hi

What's your problem with Joe? you're always slagging him off, the blokes winning his fights what more can he do to please you, you keep coming up with all these statistics but do you realise its not the boxers that arrange the fights its the managers, I'm sure he's not going to turn a payday down just to please you, be happy for the bloke can't you?

    Ray. West York's. U.K.

  4. should he lose this fight to a 44-year old version of B-Hop, man i can say that i can beat this chump. LOL

  5. You are obviously a total idiot!!! Lets just see what happens when Hopkins the trash talking piece of gutter trash gets his *** kicked by this "white boy"!!! Lap it up junior, Hopkins won't go the distance!!!

  6. Thumbs up to Johnny N, I agree with his analysis, and that coupled with the age factor spells a Calzaghe decision victory.  Hopkins is far and away the toughest opponent Joe has faced in his career, but Bernard's legacy is already cemented, win or lose this fight means little over all to Hopkins.  To Calzaghe it is almost a career defining fight, and if Joe loses he will forever be looked at as a protected European fighter who fought c and b rated competition his entire career without ever taking on the best of his era.  Calzaghe needs a win more than Hopkins in this one.

Time will tell if Joe was for real or not, but he has to beat Hopkins first, other than Kessler (another protected European) Joe has no A level fighter's on his resume, and certainly no hall of famers.  Bernard will be huge for Joe, and if Joe loses, he loses all the creditability he has built through out his career in one fight.

  7. In the light of boxing intelligence, here's why Hopkins will lose:

    - Hopkins hasn't been a busy fighter for god knows how many years. He lost to Jermain Taylor BECAUSE taylor threw more punches although not effectively.

    - Calzaghe throws WAYYYY  more punches than taylor, is more accurate than taylor, and will throw way more punches than hopkins.

    - Hopkins has very good defense but still loses against fighters with fast hands that don't pace themselves.

    - Calzaghe throws fast punches because he doesn't always turn them over, this WILL catch hopkins.

    - hopkins has won many fights because he was bigger than his opponents. look at his history, he start at light heavyweight and kept on a strict diet and training regimen that allowed him to compete at 160 for MANY MANY years. almost no fighter out there can fight the same weight class for even past 5-7 years!! hopkins is clearly bigger than you think!

    - HOWEVER, hopkin's size advantage wont work against calzaghe who has been fighting in a bigger weight class with bigger opponents all along.

    - hopkins LOVES to stall fights. he does this by constantly turning away and also coming in real close and doing clever in-fighting and then clinching to avoid taking damage

    - calzaghe's style of movement, and fast hands on the inside will counter hopkins  annoying inside game easily.

The fight will be a decision but remember that calzaghe's business is gonna win him the fight. dont' expect hopkins to come out with full pressure for 12 rounds - he can't.

    - oh yea, about calzaghe's past performances. he fights to the level  of his competition. it's that simple. BTW, he beat kessler EASILY if you watch the fight again. do it like the judges do and turn off the sound if you dont believe me.

  8. I think that Bernard is going to win in his crappy way that he always wins.  If there is more than one good exchange the whole fight, I will be surprised.
