I remember Joe Calzaghe's fight with Jeff Lacy in 2006.Myself and 2 friends sat up all night to watch the match at 3:30am to watch Calzaghe's attemt to be sold to the American media networks prime time tv.I thought it was wrong that we in the UK had to stay up all nite.About end of rnd 6 we clearly heard Enzo say to joe''get the black bxxxxx out of thier,he's fxxxxx useless!!and then the farce continued,The nxt day we and others watched it again, astonished at how the media on both sides of the Atlantic hadnt picked up on it,only to find it had been edited on the sunday replay. It was about this fight I turned against this guy and his dad.Why has Warren and co the temerity to make a big deal on Hopkins'white boy'remarks when they know what was said 2 years ago in corner of Calzaghe?I believe what Hopkins said was hype, cant say that was Enzo's remark, what do you think?

  1. Racism is not good in any way. But this is boxing and things can be said in the heat of the moment. Enzo knew that Joe had the better of him and with the American crowd maybe emotions got to him.

  2. I dont like racism in any way, shape or form.  However,  there are some situations where I choose not to make a big deal of it.  Still its wrong because anything, that can be offensive to the mass of people, isnt a good thing.

I have been around boxing for a long time.   Its in sports where you hear racist comments that might not always border hatred.  There's no excuse for it but, for myself,  it sometimes helps not to make a big deal of it, only to hope that people will be careful in the future.

I dont know enough about Joe Calzaghe to think he's a racist.  I have never gotten that impression.  I really dont believe the topic takes up much of his everyday life.  As a fight fan I like Joe.  To be White, and be involved in a sport that has been mostly dominated by Blacks, Im sure he hears his share of remarks both ways.

Ask Eminem how often he hears it.   I dont like rap music at all but I have to admire Em because he has never used the "N" word in any of his music even though he's surrounded by Losers who feel they Must use it in order to sell records.

To any self respecting Black person,  the "N" word is THE MOST degrading of ANY term ever used.  Yet rap music is LITTERED with that and other offensive things that many Blacks often cry about if a non-Black, esp. a White, ever used it.

In boxing you are sure to hear some things that are certainly CRUDE.  People will insult other fighter's talents, hometown, name and yes sometimes race as well.  Again,  Im not saying there is anything good about it because its not.   I am saying that, at least, I can understand it more in a sporting sense than the hatred often spewed on TV or in society.   ITs very sad because I can think of many people of different nationalities for whom I would do, or have done, anything.  It maked me very sad to think that those people might also fall victim to the racisim of some ignorant person.

Enzo is an old man.  Its much more likely that he, not Joe has racist feelings against people of other nationalities.   I have been to many other countries.  I am happy to say that in most cases,  I was treated just as a person.  Its only here in the US that I have experienced racism on numerous occasions.

I just choose not to dwell on it because I know that not everyone is like that.

    Peace to all

  3. Personally, I wasn't aware of the comments made by Calzaghe's corner. . . I was in a loud room when the fight was on live. . . .so that's my own ignorance on the subject.

If it's true, that the comments were made and later edited out, then that shows some real class on the part of the broadcasting team to keep hurtful comments out of their rebroadcasts. . . .good for them.

I don't think "white boy" is a hurtful term. . . .but I don't see how lots of terms used today are hurtful.  Honky, whitebread, whitey. . . they all sound silly to me.  For some reason, though, the negative terms used against African Americans DO seem hurtful and wrong. . . . .and I'm white.  Maybe there's something wrong with ME.  Who knows?

I don't think that BHop calling Joe a "white boy" is anything to scream about.  The only thing offensive here is that BHop thinks he'll win. . . .and that's just Old Bernard going senile.

  4. If you actually knew what you were talking about then you might have a point.

Calzaghe has not mentioned the "white boy" remark really.

And anyway if Calzaghe has turned round and said "i will never lose to a black boy" then the s**t would really hit the fan.

Hopkins is a tosser and hope he gets his face smashed in
