Look at Calzaghes last opponents manfredo, sakio bika and hopkins and now hez going to fight Roy Jones, Why doesnt he fight Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor or Winky Wright. Hopkins was like 42 and Roy Jones is 39, he shouldnt even be in the pound for pound rankings. He fought Kessler but he is not even close to how good these american fighters are. If he retires undefeated then he will be praised for doin nothing and not beating a legit fighter.

  1. wtf would u know  ? he defended his title for 11 straight years against the top people in his division is that not enough? he beat all the contenders and beat them with style and ease, how can he be a chump when he has been a legit champion for over a decade, has any other boxer in history defended a belt for so long? i think you will find that answer being a no, so when he goes into the boxing hall of fame he will go down as the champion who never lost to any opponent he faced, the champion who defended his belt for over 10 years, now that is an accomplishment, and so what to your american fighters? just because they are american it doesnt mean they are any better than the european boxers, just because europeans dont fight your so called 'big names' it doesnt mean they are bums, look at what happened to your legend hopkins, or jeff lacy they got humiliated  by a great great boxer....this is calzaghe last fight and he has nothing to prove any more, and it was kelly pavlik himself who didnt want to fight calzaghe, calzaghe called out pavlik and kelly said no, to much of a dangerous step in his up and coming career. just face it this is one brit you americans cant bring down, bunch of american bums

  2. he's been champ for 10 years.......he's certainly no chump.

  3. Joe Calzaghe is one of the best fighters right now. However you do have a point he hasn't beat a lot of top level opponents. I think because he has such a strong British Following that he kind of slides under the radar especially considering before he fought Jeff Lacy he spent 9 years fighting mandatory challengers which in a way can be an easy way  of padding a record and not taking on any big names. Another thing is Joe spent most of his career at super middleweight a division that has always been low on talent TO HIS CREDIT HE BEAT THE GUYS THEIR but at the same time who is even there ?

Joe Calzaghe is definitely going to have to fight some big name guys before he thinks about leaving the sport. 10 or 12 years from now people aren't going to be praising him for beating Jeff Lacy. That's why the Kelly Pavlik fight is really important and he chooses to fight Roy Jones and easy way to get his name or you record.

  4. Yeah champ for 10 years in Whales . What quality fighter's has he beaten that were in their prime? Think before you post Welsh fans. He'll only fight big time fighter's once he knows their washed up. Why didn't he ask to fight Jones or Hopkins 10 years ago? Because he knows he would have got his *** whooped. He wants to fight all the American boxers now that they are over the hill. He is a chump. I really hope he fights Pavlik so he can end this bull-sh*t.

  5. chump. he doesn't want to fight pavlik, even though he's heavier.

  6. I agree that Calzaghe should fight more, and against better opposition, before retiring.

There are claims that he turned down Pavlik because of money issues (Pavlik not that big of a PPV draw, making him high-risk, low-reward).

I don't think Kessler is underrated though.  I would like to see Kessler and Taylor fight eachother.

But I agree on the fact he should fight the names you mentioned.  The lack of doing so is also the reason I have not put him on the top of my P4P list, even when he is undefeated.  If he defeats all of those fighters, he'll be a legend for sure.
